THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: April 29-May 5 Edition

This was some week! Naturally, there were tragic shooting deaths in the US still unstopped by the mysterious Good Guy With a Gun. April left the building,  but not before dousing us in ice-cold showers. We lost the legendary troubadour, Gordon Lightfoot. Beyond all that, there were events that brought out the best in memes and social media commentary. Let’s take a peek.

The merry month arrived in a sulk. Unseasonably cold and non-stop rain didn’t allow for much walking in the park. Still, May Day greetings were extended.

Meanwhile, the world prepares for the coronation of King Charles III. My tiara is polished and my goblet is ready for the celebratory toasting.

Here in the States, we had our own annual coronation as celebrity royalty attended the MET Gala dressed as outlandishly as possible.

Meanwhile, the Studio Guild of Writers went on strike this week, striking fear and sorrow in the hearts of couch potatoes everywhere.

Also in the news, four members of The Proud Boys, an anti-government militia movement (that always looked like goofy cosplayers to me) were found guilty of sedition and sentenced to decades in prison.

Last but not least, today marks yet another drinking day in the US. Thank heavens for the Irish and the Mexicans, or we’d be quite a sober nation, indeed.

And that’s about enough for this week. Be sure to stop and smell the petunias and stay safe out there.
