THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: November 11-17 Edition

This was a week of  drops - dropping gas prices, dropping inflation rates, dropping travel delays, and dropping ethics in Congress. War continues in the Middle East; Joe Manchin will not run again for his Senate seat; some Trump or other took the witness stand; and Marjory Taylor Green said something stupid. Naturally, the internet was noisy about all the goings on. Let’s check it out!

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: October 21-27 Edition

Yet again, it’s challenging to find humor in a week of news that includes another mass shooting as well as the wartime deaths of innocents. Fortunately, there are some funny people in this world who  happen to reside in the internet.  Let’s go spy!

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: October 14-20 Edition

I take a two week vacation, and the world goes crazy! The Hamas/Israel clash continues, the Republicans are in disarray, Trump has been gagged, and Taylor and Travis are adorable. Sadly, we lost the lovely Suzanne Somers to breast cancer. Join me as we discover what the social medias were up to this week.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: September 23-29 Edition

This week, we are sad at the passing of the  oldest sitting member of the Senate,  Dianne Feinstein.  She was 90 years old and still performing her Congressional duties just the day before. Meanwhile, McCarthy & Co are threatening to shut down the US government while also trying to draw up articles of impeachment against President Biden.  New York is victim to the latest weather disaster. There was lots of sports ball. And we say goodbye to September. Let’s see what the internet was up to.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: September 9-15 Edition

This week brought some crazy football shenanigans with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, Joe Burrows, not living up to his “highest paid contract in history” with a loss to the beleaguered Cleveland Browns. The oft-dismissed Detroit Lions beat the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Then, the anticipated arrival of Aaron Rogers on the NY Jets was a bust - literally. More climate disaster as floods roared through Libya, killing tens of thousands of people. In the US, we commemorated 9/11, still grateful it hasn’t turned into a day of mattress sales. The internet was out in full force with all the news. Let’s check in.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: September 2-8 Edition

If you go by the name of Mother Earth, this has not been your best week. A horrific and unusual earthquake in Morocco has taken thousands of lives, with the death toll rising. The Black Rock desert in Nevada flooded, stranding Burning Man attendees. Hurricane Lee is churning in the Atlantic, heading for the east coast. Also, the ocean is a little bit sadder due to the death of troubadour and bon vivant Jimmy Buffett. Somehow, the interwebbery still managed to provide some laughs. Let's check it out.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: August 26-September 1 Edition

It’s been quite the week for Florida! Hurricane Idalia barreled though the Panhandle. There was a tragic, racially-motivated  mass murder in Jacksonville. And Ron DeSantis is still Governor. For the rest of us, it’s the arrival of Football season, Do You Want Some Of My Home-Grown Tomatoes Please season, and Time To Get Out the Hoodies Season. Naturally, social media had a lot to say. Let’s check in.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: Week of August 19-25

Friends, is it even worth talking about anything except the Mug Shot Seen 'Round the World? Granted, we had Tropical Storm Hilary which the Republicans were hoping to indict. A young man named Oliver Anthony somehow went viral with a song that began as a judgement against greedy politicians and cooperate oligarchs, but meandered into a gripe about welfare people eating all his Fudge Rounds. We also lost a wonderful actor, Ron Cephus Jones, known to the This Is Us fandom as William. But, the internet had only one thing on its mind this week. "Bring out the mug shot!" And they did! Let's check it out.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: August 12-18 Edition

It seems some people have some ‘splainin’ to do. Besides the usual suspect, Donald Trump, this week’s indictees include Rudy Guiliani, John Eastman, Sydney Powell and Jenna Ellis. Looks like the lights finally  came back on in Georgia! Smoke still rises from the devastation of the Hawaiian Island of Maui. Schools are back in session. And Elvis has been dead for 46 years. Despite Twitter being on life support, the internet had plenty to say. Let’s check in.

THE FUNNY PAPERS, The Week In Memes: July 29-August 4 Edition

With another week in the books, we saw the arrival of the least favorite month to school kids and teachers everywhere - August. Between the dog days, school supply lists, and the Christmas decorations on store shelves, the end of summer is in sight. This week, Mike Pence is on the “He really did lose the election” tour; Rudy Guilliani is sweating hair dye;  Ginni Thomas is begging donors to hide her in a Swiss Bank Account,  all thanks to a certain indictment report. We lost a beloved actor and children’s entertainer, Paul Reubens. And the recession we were all worried about has gone into hiding. What say you, internet?

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: July 22-28 Edition

As the summer days get shorter, Trump Indictments are becoming fruitful and multiplying.  Just as nature intended. Speaking of nature, air conditioners have been working overtime along with some brutal storm systems. Fox News host Jesse Watters continued to expose the Idiocracy by claiming slavery taught the enslaved useful skills that helped them later in life. The internet had plenty to say about that, but I’d have to use the bleep button to post any of it. Sadly, we lost the gifted and fearless Sinead O’Connor.   Time to check out the chatter.

THE FUNNY PAGES: The Week In Memes:

The most embarrassing week in news history began with Marjorie Taylor Green displaying photos of a very naked Hunter Biden on the floor of Congress. Of course, to hear the internet talk, that was nothing compared to  Miranda Lambert embarrassing concert goers by chastising then for taking selfies during her performance. Meanwhile, RFK, Jr.  embarrassed himself by whining to Congress that social media is run by big old meanies!  Then, Jason Aldean embarrassed country music by recording a song called “Don’t Try That In a Sundown Small Town," then proceeded to film the video on a plantation notorious for lynchings. On a sad note, we lost one of the most dignified men in music - a man who understood the value of being classy (unlike the aforementioned) - Mr. Tony Bennett. Let's find out what the internet had to say.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: June 1-7 Edition

This week was quieter than usual because Americans figured out how to obtain a four-day weekend out of a Tuesday holiday! The economy is thriving despite the existence of Hunter Biden. Madonna was hospitalized for a bacterial infection. Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter celebrated 77 years of wedded bliss, which would make Miss Lillian proud. Plus, a brand new social media site popped up to take on Twitter.  Speaking of social media, what was happening on there this week?

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: June 24-30 Edition

The last week of June started with a bang as the Wagner Group spent one whole day instigating a coup before they calmly said, “Never mind!” It ended with a whimper as smoke from the Canadian forest  fires continued to blanket the Midwest before heading south. Where’s Smoky the Bear when we need him? Madonna was hospitalized, Alan Arkin passed away, and the Supreme Court’s poll ratings are on life support. How did the internet take to all the latest news?

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: June 17-23 Edition

It’s been quite the week! Of course, the top news story was the disappearance of the Oceangate submarine. Though the world waited with a mixture of hope and trepidation, sadly,  the five individuals on board did not make it.  Barbecuing took center stage as most of us celebrated Father’s Day and Juneteenth, while the Hunter-Biden obsessed MAGA fired up their grills to commemorate his guilty plea to tax evasion and illegal possession of a firearm! Somewhere amidst it all, the days started getting shorter. Let’s check out the hubbub on the internet.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: June 10-16 Edition

Like most weeks, this one had its ups and downs. The biggest downer was the collapse of a portion of I-95 in Philadelphia. Where’s Infrastructure Week when we need it? A high point was when  four lost children in the Amazon jungle were found alive and well. The Unibomber died, baseball season is in full swing, and tornadoes are back in season. As usual, the internet has its say. Let’s check it out.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: June 3-9 Edition

This week, like so many others, began with not much going on. Sure, Biden and McCarthy came to an agreement to raise the debt ceiling. Naturally, some politician or other said something stupid. Yes, the schools are closed and the pools are open. But, who could have predicted the rest of the crazy happenings? How did the internet memers respond to the madness?  Let’s find out.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: May27-June 2 Edition

This week brings us the joyful month of June. The school year is over, vacation season has begun, and the debt ceiling is being lifted to the clear blue sky! Chick-Fil-A is accused of going woke for hiring  a director of diversity. The anti-wokes threaten to boycott the franchise, but only on Sundays. The nation mourned as two popular cable shows, Ted Lasso and Succession, came to an end. And the sound of the ice cream truck was heard in our land. So, what was social media up to?

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: May 20-26 Edition

In terms of weeks, this was a relatively quiet one if you don’t count the looming  debt-ceiling crisis, the G-7 Summit, a couple of large earthquakes off the Pacific, and the continued panic over the potential woke-a-fication of the United States. In the world of reality TV, Real Housewife Theresa Guidice got married, Blake Shelton hung up his The Voice cowboy hat after 23 seasons, and RFK Jr continues to build alliances with anti-vaxxers and Q-Anoners. Of course, the biggest news is that the world has lost a true Queen. Tina Turner passed away at 83. RIP to simply the best. Let’s see how the memers handled the important news.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: May 13-19 Edition

Well, it was a mother of a week. The mouse that roared did another number on Governor Desantis when Disney announced it will not be building its new billion dollar campus in Florida. Tim Scott (who?) has announced he’ll challenge front runner Donald Trump for the GOP nomination. Turkey’s presidential election has gone into overtime. And, in positive news, April showers have, in fact, brought May flowers. How did the internet handle this week’s news? Let’s find out!

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: May 6-12 Edition

It was a good week to be British as they got an extra day off work thanks to the big Katy Perry concert. The writers’ strike continued,  terrifying  Americans with the thought of more CNN Town Halls. The soap opera world lost its beloved Jackie Zemen who portrayed Bobbie Spencer on General Hospital for 45 years. A King got a crown, a horse got some roses, an ex-Pres got a verdict,  and a congressman got a mug shot. Let’s check out  the internet’s reaction to it all!

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: April 29-May 5 Edition

This was some week! Naturally, there were tragic shooting deaths in the US still unstopped by the mysterious Good Guy With a Gun. April left the building,  but not before dousing us in ice-cold showers. We lost the legendary troubadour, Gordon Lightfoot. Beyond all that, there were events that brought out the best in memes and social media commentary. Let’s take a peek.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes - April 22-28

What a week! Sadly, we lost three famous gentlemen: one who brought us the glorious Dame Edna, Barry Humphries;  one who introduced us to the daytime circus, Jerry Springer; and the one who gifted us with beautiful music, Harry Belefonte. Someone infamous also passed this week, but we'll let her endure her final justice anonymously. So, what else is new? Well, let's check in on the scuttlebutt, shall we?

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: April 15-21 Edition

I hope you all had a better week than Elon Musk. Between Twitter becoming less relevant by the hour and the explosion of the latest SpaceX rocket, the poor man must be sobbing into hankies sewn from thousand-dollars bills. Meanwhile, Eastern Orthodox Christians as well as Muslims had fat-inducing holidays this week, and Fox News owes Dominion so much money that Robert Murdoch can now only attract women in their late-60's.  The internet was quite amused by it all. Let’s listen in, shall we?

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes - April 8-14 Edition

Never a dull moment in these United States! In the course of seven days, we’ve had another shooting, the “Tennessee Three” reinstalled to their elected positions, and a young National Guardsman sharing classified documents to his online gaming group. Naturally, the internet was far more interested in this week’s episode of Succession and the Jonas Brothers Wafflehouse album. But, there was more to mock. Let’s get into it.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: April 1-7 Edition

The week began with a day for fools and ended with a whole lot of foolishness. This was also the holiest week of the Christian calendar as well as the beginning of the celebration of the Jewish Passover. Former President Donald Trump was arrested in New York. Then, Kid Rock shot up a twelve-pack of Budweiser for being too woke. The internet could not keep still!

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes - March 24-31 Edition

I wondered if I should put up a post this week. Sometimes, the news is just so sad that it feels wrong to laugh about anything at all. Yet, in the wake of the tragedy in Nashville and the horrific storms in Mississippi, the internet crowd managed to find a way to distract. Here’s the response to some of the big stories of this last week of March, 2023.

BOOK 'EM, DIVA: FIVE FICTION FAVES OF 2022

Now that I am a government-sanctioned Diva of Leisure, (I've got a Medicare card as proof!) I have more time to pursue my favorite hobby - reading. I was that kid who hid in the bedroom closet when I was supposed to be sleeping so I could squeeze in another chapter of my library book. As a full-grown Diva who can pick her own bedtime, I read at least eight novels a month. So, like Reeces with its peanut butter cup, I'm combining my two favorite things, reading and blogging, by writing book recommendations of my faves.  There's no time to waste so, let's get started with my Top 5 Novels of 2022.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: THE WEEK IN MEMES - March 18-24 Edition

This week brought us the arrival of Spring, Ramadan (The Muslim time of fast),  rumors of the arrest of a former President (started by said former President), and the potential US ban of the popular social app Tik Tok. Most importantly, it is the early onset of allergy season. Get those hankies ready as we check out the internet’s response to the top stories of the third week in the miserable month of March! Achooo!

THE FUNNY PAPERS: THE WEEK IN MEMES: MARCH 11-17 EDITION

This is the week when memes were flying so fast and furious that it was almost impossible to keep up. The Oscars arrived right on the heels of DST and were abruptly followed by Pi Day, Ides of March, and the wearing of the green. Banks crashed, Russia shot down a drone, and Angela Bassett did not win an Academy Award. What did social media have to say about it all? Plenty!

THE DIVA'S GUIDE TO BEST PICTURE

As a diva, albeit an invisible one, I like to weigh in on all things cultural. In the months of February and March, I settle in to view the Academy Award nominees so I can spend Oscar night with my Box-O-Wine by my side cheering on my picks. If I were a voting member of the Academy, I'd have my own, distinct criteria to choose the most deserving nominee in each category. For example, for  Best Picture I would not reject compelling story-telling, stunning cinematography, brilliant directing, and flawless acting. However, I'd ask myself these questions: Did I actually like the film? Did I nod off at some point? Could I describe the plot to a friend in three sentences or less?  Bonus points if I cry. Demerits if I can’t watch it in one sitting. So, which 2023 nominees rose to my stringent guidelines? I present to you my rankings.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: March 4 through March 10 Edition

While the Russian assault on Ukraine continues, America is bracing to take on its biggest internal threat - drag queens. When they heard the news of another impressive month of job numbers, the GOP replied,  "But are those jobs woke?" Also, while trains around the nation are derailing, Tucker Carlson is on track to win the  Fox News award for Most Fibs Per Feature. What did the internet have to say? Let's listen in!

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week In Memes: February 25-March 3 Edition

I was fully prepared for this to be a slow news week. Who could have predicted that, while earthquakes continue to devastate Syria and Turkey,  Lauren Boebert  would announce her pronouns are Ultra and Maga? Who knew that, as the Pacific Northwest got walloped by powerful storms,  Marjorie Taylor Green would continue to make the case for the Red States divorcing the Blue? (Personally, I'd like to know the terms.Who gets custody of the Great Lakes?) But could anyone have predicted that Cancel Culture would come in like a lion? Let's see what people are saying about the goings on this week!

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week in Memes - February 18-24 Edition

This week gave us a little bit of everything. We started with some sad news about a former President,  continued with a three-day weekend, added a day of over-indulgence, then followed up with the beginning of  the most solemn season on the Christian calendar.  If that weren't enough, Madonna defended her "facial enhancement" on social media, and South Park made fun of Harry and Meghan. Phew! How did the internet respond to such a bounty of meme-worthy events? Let's see.

THE FUNNY PAPERS: The Week in Memes

There are plenty of reasons to leave the popular social media platforms, but there is one powerful reason to stay. The funniest people you've never heard of post quips and memes, gifs and tic tocs that can make even the most mundane things amusing. When life gives us lemons, leave it to the folks at Twitter to turn them into delightful twists of irony that add zest to even the dreariest culture-war cocktails. This week, there were more than enough events to keep the socials blowing up.
